Brazilian Jujutsu or Jiu-Jitsu

Jodo, Also Called Jojutsu
Jodo, in literal terms means "the way of the stick." Jodo, also referred to as jojutsu, is the Japanese way of stick combat .....
Brazilian Jujutsu or Jiu-Jitsu is a contemporary cutting edge martial art style based on Judo and the traditional Japanese Jujitsu. This particular art of fighting was developed by Brazilian landowner Carlos Gracie together with his family.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is renowned for its hard and damaging ground fighting approach. Basically, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was designed to let a smaller person subdue his larger opponent by using leverage and technique. The basic principle of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is to give one an advantage over an opponent and then defeat an opponent through the use of chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations.

Carlos Gracie learned martial arts by training under Count Koma (Mitsuo Maeda), a Japanese Judo and Jiu-Jitsu master who lived in Brazil when Gracie was a young boy. After Gracie mastered Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, he taught this martial art to his brothers. With the help of his brothers, Gracie perfected the style by pitting himself against boxers and other martial arts professionals in no-rules contests and challenge competitions. Gracie and his brothers tailored the Judo and Jiu-Jitsu techniques they knew so that it mirrored the street fighting styles in Brazil.

In a fight, the Brazilian Jujutsu combatant attempts to quickly drive a clinch, a quick movement forward that aims to get a very close hold of the opponent. When a clinch occurs, the opponent can no longer deliver effective blows and kicks. The Brazilian fighter then takes advantage, takes down his opponent and maintains a chokehold or joint lock until the opponent surrenders.

A hands-on martial art, Brazilian Jujutsu does not have any preset forms and typically has its students and practitioners spending much of their time practicing and learning ground fighting techniques.
