Hop Gar Kung Fuis a style of Wushu martial arts that focuses on delivering potent blows to enemies. The Hop Gar Kung Fu style is based on Lion Roar Wushu. This particular Wushu style is said to have begun in the Tang dynasty, when it was taught to monks for several generations. When the style reached the Lama, it became took on the moniker Lama Wushu. Lama Wushu was renamed to Hop Gar in the beginning of the 1900s.

Both short and long range fighting techniques are taught to Hop Gar students. Hop Gar also teaches both empty hand and weapons techniques. In addition, Hop Gar students practice their footwork perched atop "plum flower stumps," which are wooden poles of different heights that have been driven into the ground. Hop Gar students practice and hone their balancing ability and other skills on these stumps. Hop Gar practitioners receive rigorous training in order to learn the proper technique and form of Hop Gar Kung Fu. Once a Hop Gar student become proficient in the Hop Gar technique and form, he or she will be able to use the techniques according to his or her needs.
