b>Hsing Yi Chuan, which literally means, "mind body boxing," is one of the three internal martial arts. The other two internal martial arts are Tai Chi and Pa Kua. These three styles of martial arts emphasize three important aspects: martial or self-defense, health benefits and conditioning, and the coordination of the mind and body, which refers to the spiritual aspects.

General Yu Fei is credited as the originator of Hsing Yi Chuan as well as Eagle Claw Boxing and Ba Duan (or the Eight Pieces of Brocade). General Yu Fei is believed to have created these styles of fighting for his troops. He developed Eagle Claw Boxing for his troops while he created Hsing Yi Chuan for his military officers. Hsing Yi Chuan fighting techniques are considered highly effective martial arts techniques and thus Hsing Yi Chuan was originally not taught to those who have bad temperaments.

Hsi Yuan Chuan and Pa Kua are sister martial arts systems. This relationship is believed to have originated when two great masters engaged in combat. Hsing Yu Chuan's Kuo Yun Shen and Pa Kua's Tung Hai Chuan fought in a competition in order to prove the superiority of their martial arts. The two fought for three days, neither one beating or gaining any advantage over the other. The contest was declared even. The two masters came into an agreement to allow their students to learn the other master's style of martial arts.

Today, Hsing Yi Chuan is divided into three schools: Hebei Style, Shanxi Style and the I Chuan Style. China Hand Kung Fu Academy teaches the Hebei Style as well as a few styles of meditation of I Chuan. In general, Hsing Yi Chuan is a linear system of fighting whose techniques are characterized by the use of explosive power.
